About Wendy McWilliams

I am a Certified Career Counselor  with the National Career Development Association and have a MA in Counseling from Saint Mary's College as well as a BS in Business from UC Berkeley.  Working in the Bay Area tech industry for 15 years while raising a family created  numerous tipping points of my own. I returned to school in my mid-40's and have been working with individuals seeking their way forward in their careers ever since.

I work with individuals in varied industries including: tech sector, biotech, higher ed, transitioning law enforcement, military veterans, teachers leaving and entering, non-profit workers and many people looking to contribute to a healthier, sustainable environment.

I also work with a variety of ages and phases of life including: 20 somethings trying to launch their careers, folks who are reentering after a gap, those who have been laid-off, many who are questioning their career trajectory and seeking a better, more engaging and balanced future and 50+ who are facing ageism and uncertainty.

I am skilled at seeing the key elements of a problem and helping to identify where the focus should be whether we are working on a job search strategy, how to achieve a better work-life balance, creating a career exploration plan or retooling your current position.

WENDY'S TIPPING POINTS

While I have had many tipping points in my professional life, two stand out as major career changers.

TIPPING POINT ONE

Stepping outside while my two-year old was crying so I could take a work phone call on my "day off".

I left the workforce to be a stay-at-home parent within 6 months.

TIPPING POINT TWO

Working for a wonderful small company where I was respected and trusted with all the work-life balance I wanted and still not liking working as a project manager in Tech.

I applied for grad school the next spring and started my journey to becoming a Career Counselor.
